sea is a very big place I accept that ,but since all ships want to use the shortest way between ports, collisions happens I am a captain by the way and this was the first question I asked when I started college
Seriously, they’re out in the open seas with miles of nothing around them, in vessels that move like snails, and they manage to collide? How ******* drunk are these sailors exactly?
I can’t believe that people are responding to tell us about the rules of shipping lanes.Of course we all know that it is an accident.and there are rules and laws in the shipping lanes. I’ll bet it’s people from the same family that drivese two boats that are responding with The OBVIOUS !
because in frequented passages to approach ports or straights they have to follow certain routes. sometimes such sea-highways are even crossing. but all navigators have clear rules how to behave in such a situation and one of these both mistook.
By ocean law, you are suppose to pass on the right sides of each boat if oncoming or in the same like paths. The boat that the pictures are being taken from is in the wrong.
Someone whether captaining an 8ft dinghy or having a 1600-Ton Master can tell there was no time left. The guy taking the photos I am sure did not leave the bridge unattended to take photos instead of trying an evasive maneuver. Those photos can easily be told they were taken within seconds of each other. There was no way a collision of some type could have been avoided and tupsimato is 100% right and PilotKiel needs more than an attitude adjustment.
As there was not enough space to stop the ship in time, a crash stop would’ve just resulted in the red ship colliding with the blue one further towards the midship, possibly with catastrophic consequences.
Anyway, I wasn’t trying to offend you as I didn’t know that you probably know more about ships than me (though I should’ve guessed it from your nickname). Still, your reply showed me that your attitude might require some adjusting. Don’t use your profession as the first (and only) argument.
Turning hard to starboard would’ve quite probably resulted in the “blue” ship T-boning the bulk carrier.
Turning hard to port could’ve resulted in either head-on collision or the “red” ship hitting the “blue” ship’s side in a different angle. Perhaps there could’ve been a small chance of avoiding the collision, but taking the size of the ship into consideration it’s quite unlikely.
ppl got no humor anymore:(
play CALL OF DUTY 4 !!!!!!
thats sexscist
LOL!!
i’l bett the captains were women;)

@tuntitommosille but yea i no what u mean..lol
@tuntitommosille well it takes a few miles to stop one of them and they cant turn fast

Quand les responsabilités sont de taille, les conneries sont énormes aussi ! Vive les cons qui n’ont jamais assez de place sur une mer déserte….
@PilotKiel
the reason was that these ships turn so slow there couldn’t be any last second action all they could do was sit,wait, and hope for the best
Looks like they both turned at the same time in the wrong direction.
All that ocean and people still run into eachother.

HOWm the hell do ya have a whole ocean and tow giant boats and then drive them into each other?

@PilotKiel : You are a blatant tosser!
