do you think bicycle riders and skateboarders should have to be licenced and insured?

Since both of these modes of transportation can be used on the roads shouldn’t the rider bee required to take a road test, carry liability insurance as well as wear the required safety equipment.I don’t skateboards were intended for road travel but for recreation, in skatebord parks not on busy highways in the city.I think too many people are not aware of the rules of the road and that includes all forms of transportation. I’m sure most users on this site have had near misses and a few collisions with wreckless or inexperienced riders. peole who use the highway be required to carry liability insurance?
I think the young people who want to skateboard should hsve a safe place to do it.I don’t think that a helmet affords the rider mmuch protection on city highways.A car cannot stop fast enough to avoid a skateboarder whizzing in and out of traffic.
I don’t think some parents ensure their kids know the rules of the road and yet it is key to their safety if they ride on the road.I don’t want it where kids can’t have fun on their bikes but have some conserns over safety and liability.
I think that if anyone of any age is using the roads to get to and from their destination they should know and observe the rules of the road.If a 7 year old does not know the rules of the road don’t you think the parent should educate their child on basic road safety such as stopping and looking both ways BEFORE entering an intersection.Just a few weeks ago a young boy in our town was taken to hospital because he entered an intersection without looking and was hit by a car.The boy was also not wearing a helmet ( my guess is it doesn’t look cool to wear one, a fractured scull must look more cool).Fortunately this boy did not receive any serious injuries. The driver was not charged and the boy was given a lecture by the police. In the past I’ve had kids on bikes and skateboards use the sidewalks as a playground. This can pose a risk for pedestrians who do not have the benefit of eyes in the back of their head..My idea of a licence was intended to show the rider passed a road safety test.
I wonder if auto or homeowner insurance companies would permit parents to add their minor children onto their policys so the unsuspecting public is protected.I’m sure the parents of these children ( who believe their children are capable riders) would not mind doing this.In the event of an accident and a driver is not at fault who pays for the bike riders injuries?

  1. I, Gussie – and should also be better controlled. On the other hand should be more cycle paths and skateboard parks to keep them off the streets!

  2. So I do. If they use the road, then yes, there should be some kind of license. You can use this money to pay for bicycle lanes on roads, paths and trails.

  3. Certainly, and should get tickets for using their cell phones to carry out!

  4. Well, if we force e1 riding a bicycle or a skateboard to get an insurance license and is also necessary to force the Amish to get a PPL license and insurance for horses and buggies. Do not you think we have to do enough, now we do not want to do. Safety belts, not the smoking ban, I imagine some are so nombreux.Les people who drive cars are slowing down and keep alert for children on bicycles and advice of the State. Oh what is the closest thing to a licensed insurance and skates?

  5. How will license and provide a 7-year-old rides his bike to school? Sorry, back to the drawing board for you.

  6. It is a hot topic in which I live. Our City Council has approved a package of road works. Many of these share “traffic signals” approached one of the great arteries (at 65 mph). The road has been rebuilt, enlarged and painted bike lanes. I had to do some dangerous stunts bike to beat the cars to a special place. It scares me half to death of my truck. I’m where I’m supposed to be, but believe they have the road and there are no rules. I really do not want one of those poor slobs in front of me cutting and getting hit. Cyclists should be held accountable for their fair share of affairs, which includes insurance. Like motor bikes must be registered and therefore should not motorized bicycles. Any operator of a device in the street legal transportation must prove their knowledge and understanding of the rules / laws of their means of transport. As for the skaters go, should be treated as pedestrians. However, it was necessary to use helmets and get tickets if the law is not respected. My DSS was for this ticket at the age of 16 years. The judge did not give any kind of punishment so that is always around the town of shipment w / AP almost two years later. If it were my own son, I would do the promotion, but his parents do not make a Dang thing for him to enforce the law. I’m sure it’s a life lesson that takes into account and reappear later as a contempt of the law in other areas. Parents and strengthening the laws should be more diligent to make it work.

  7. I really think it should!

  8. WOW This is an excellent question. . . . I’ll revisit. . . . .
