I have an interest in cars my bf is a auto body collision repair and painter and he’s always working on car mechanically and I help with both, i love making cars look good with accessories like front lips, wheels, etc… I thought about going to school to be a mechanic but i’m not sure if I will regret it or not, I don’t know much about cars i know more than the average girl and i’m willing to learn but working on cars with my bf but I don’t know if it’s the job for me or not. How could i find out just go to school and try it? I don’t think I could get someone to give me an apprenticeship since i don’t know much so I would have to go to school first. But i don’t want to waste 5 grand for nothing. If your a girl and you started out knowing nothing about cars and now your a mechanic what did you do? and how did you know it was right for you?
I don’t mind getting greasy I had fake nails donw for my prom lets just say they didn’t last past prom from helping my bf with cars he gave me the ditty job putting grease in an axle boot lol I like the hands on part of being a mechanic, but there’s so much info to understand I don’t know if college will cover enough for me to be ready for on the job working? did it prepare you enough for a job?

Spend time with your boyfriend is working on a car. Ask her to show how to do certain things and just give it a shot for some time. If you enjoy, then go to an award from the technical school. If you want her then go for it!
All a man can do for a car, a woman can do. I’ve worked in shops with women and I am also a wheeled vehicle mechanic in the army along with truck drivers, mechanics, and recovery specialists are women. I should not even consider *** to see this as a career, unless you plan to break a bunch of kids.
One question is whether or not you might be interested in cars, if you have a boyfriend who is into cars. What if you had a new boyfriend, who was a lawyer and wanted to marry and have children engage in? It would be as much money as a lawyer who has bought luxury cars and was repaired in a garage. It is not necessary to work and prefers to stay home and care for children. Are you still interested in automotive technology, then? If so, go to your local community college and take courses as an introduction to automotive technology.
Think seriously about this. . . Body Shop Boys are not as Diry as general mechanics. . . Better not mind the grease and oil under the fingernails. . . Not to mention your hair. . . . That was a mechanic of 20 years. . This is what I dislike most. . . Very nasty / dirty work. . . . .
If you enjoy the work and could see yourself doing it all day everyday, then go for it. You may be able to find an entry level job at a shop changing oil, alignments, and other minor repairs. If you do a good job your employer will see potential in you and you will move up the ladder rapidly. Have you considered an auto body shop instead of a mechanical shop? If you like to make things look good this would be a perfect fit for you. Gender doesn’t matter as long as you are willing to do the work.
Personally, I wanted to get into a body shop. I worked as a truck driver for a couple years after high school with the intent to eventually attend auto body school. Well, I ended up getting married and moved to the city that had a tech school for auto body. Unfortunately the class was filled up and I was put on a waiting list.
Luck for me there was a body shop 3 blocks from the apartment we moved into, so I walked over and asked for an application. I filled it out, handed it in, and asked if I would be able to talk to the manager. The lady at the front desk took my app and walked it over to the manager, they talked for a little while and then I was called in. The manager talked to me a little about the auto body business and asked where I saw myself in the future. I told him I wanted to learn the auto body business and that I was actually on the waiting list to attend tech school. He said that if I was willing to learn, he would teach me everything I needed to know.
I worked as a detailer for a year and soaked up all the knowledge I could about auto repairs. I would help the techs every free second I could. After that year I was promoted to the paint department were I prepped cars for about 3 months and was partnered with the current painter. I painted and did light body repairs for another three years before being promoted to the office as the customer service manager. I stayed at the office for a couple years until an opportunity came up to move into the insurance side of the automotive industry. Currently I am an auditor at Quality Claims Solutions and and to the SEO work for AutoBody Alliance. With hard work and determination you can to anything!!
