How to Find a Bad Wheel Bearing

Well as I said in the video I shot this some time ago but never posted it. I’ve been snowed in for a couple of days so I haven’t been to the shop to make some new video so I decided to bring this one up from the vault. The idea is to give you some basic information on how to find a bad , replacing it once you find it is another story but diagnosing is the first step. Now, another way to find out if you have a limited slip is to jack up both sides of the car and rotate one of the drive wheels. If the wheel on the opposite side moves in the same direction you probably have a limited slip differential. If the wheel spins in the opposite direction you probably have a regular differential that is not limited slip. As I said in the video a bunch of times be careful doing this, use the parking brake and brace the rear wheels with something. I know you’ll do the right thing. Now on to the recommended channels www.youtube.com www.youtube.com And now the EricTheCarGuy website ericthecarguy.com As always stay dirty ETCG

  1. angry cons

  2. @ Oreoco071 The first thing you would check the brake wear. As the friction material wears away, can cause the noise you describe.

  3. Vettelover2009 @ In my experience, the bearing is noisy long before showing signs of being lost if the test you propose is not conclusive. However, I saw the ball feel like they were about to collapse when you shake the wheel (about 1 “movement), but make no noise at all. C is confident that this is not limited slip.

  4. Why not take the front wheels, and tire grip in position 12 and 6. . . if theres no movement. . . its most likely wrong. . . and saved a potential security problem with the collapse of one hand and put it in the drive.

  5. Hi Eric!, Quick question, I have a bad deal good for my right rear tire, realllllyy rub it hurts when I turn the car back down and when you press the pause button or pull a red light foot braking I hear a noise rinse slowly breaks resembles its low turnover. . What is possible?

  6. film is slow and time stops. I do not know why. Probably utube

  7. Is this the first.

  8. man is like a horror movie, I swear. . .

  9. @ Smileb1b sounds like it works is a good thing. Good luck with the rest of the work.

  10. OK that was a sort of blue cover on the back of the hub. He was caught in that country. I was able to burst. And I’m much happier on the road.

  11. @ Smileb1b I think the new assembly is in one piece and contains a new ABS sensor. I do not remember if it comes with a hub, but if you do then all that just change the parts, otherwise you will remove the race from the center and push the new bearing before installing.

  12. Well, I remove the wheel hub, but appears to be split in two. Half are still stuck there and the ABS connector is still inside. You do not know what to do now.

  13. @ Thanks for the great pleasure Smileb1b comment that I could help.

  14. Thank God for you. That is exactly what is happening to me. I had no idea. That’s perfect. Thank you.

  15. @ Skylinesdr is the noise when the engine speed or driving the car?

  16. @ MrMichyo I would say that “grinding” noise can be more to do with the brakes on a wheel bearing. I recommend removing the wheel and check the brakes to see if they are brought to its wear limit. It is still possible to have a wheel bearing problem, but I would address the first problem and see if the noise is removed first.

  17. OK This video is very helpful to me. Remercie.J I have a different question. Thus, the noise eventually go crazy grinding noise, if not fixed at that time? I have a problem of great kissing and grinding noise was roaring ahead. I can not hear a roaring sound like more because the chirping is so loud. . . The thing is that I’m stronger with grinding noise at each brake is applied. So I suspect that the brakes too. This may be the problem you think? Thanks in advance ~

  18. my car has a strong real buzz rev i love my car about 6 k’s not my father thinks that the engine of a wheel with a feedback message if u can please

  19. @ Mikelaren101 Sorry, I have a price, the responsibility as well.

  20. Any idea how much work would have cost my local dealer or a store?

  21. @ Tower609 heard this suggestion, but I have not tried. Regarding the security aspect, I’m not sure for safe driving is erratic. This method is not really isolate the rear or front to eliminate the possibility of a tire problem. I’m not saying it would not work, I just choose to do it this way and so far have had success with, of course, prefer to do in an elevator with four wheels off the ground however.

  22. The best (of course) I’ve found is to the left and right Duing shaky test drive. If the passenger side is bad and the left bank transfer weight on the passenger side and the noise louder. If your bank at the time, and it is softer (weight changes to the driver’s side) gives the same answer. (Passengers carrying out no possibility of Bad Breaks.:)

  23. I hope you do not need to try to find that in. :)

  24. Your right. Not work for a 4×4 with limited slip. haha

  25. They can be difficult to nail the time, but the basic diagnosis usually get a result. Thanks for the comment.
