I recently bought a second hand drafting table but there are a few deep scratches and notches taken out of it. As it will be used for drawing, i was wondering if there was a way to permanently repair this.

put a wet towel on the tooth and put an iron to heat the towel, sometimes it works
Depending on the depth of the bumps and scratches, use wood putty, then sand. The damp towel and the iron method can work on minor dents. The matrix can be coated with polyurethane and scratches are actually “deleted” Poly.
