You know us as the folks who take apart new hardware and show people how to fix Apple products. We’re not going to stop doing any of that, but starting today we are going to massively expand our scope: We are relaunching iFixit as the free repair manual that anyone can edit.

It’s fantastic! I have always believed in trying to fix things. We must stop wasting our society, allowing people the possibility and even the ability to fix things for other people (like most of the people could not be bothered) is a source of inspiration.

Screw the planet, it is common sense, the host economy and prudence. The waste is not bad because it damages the planet or 3rdWorld nations is bad because it is a sin, period. I’m ROTFL that this philosophy of self-repair is to be taught such a short time only twenty years after the last generation has forgotten, as if it were the tree-environmentalists have done more to discover the rest of us. It seems a story by Brian Aldiss.
Does anybody know what the name of music?
Excellent idea. Love this initiative.
Thank you very much I can fix my computer and save money! TXS a lot! From Mexico
@ Cdcline1 I used to roll the things that have failed, but I refuse to have my 97 jourc’est ps1i can try a refow
There is a need to repair the product instead of trowing now. The planet simply can not cope with an increasing amount of waste produced. She has the means to make us continue to use their natural resources. Unfortunately, many people are very affected by all the size that we are living the life we lead irresponsible. Everyone benefits from the management by the size and less “buy-use-Trow away” lifestyle. We’ll save you money in the process and most importantly: We’ll save lives.
@ Envigopcrepairs I’m confused. iFixit attempts to reduce electronic waste by telling people to repair their equipment instead of throwing them away. They traveled to Africa to get first hand pictures of how electronic waste is handled and what is bad. They try to educate people about simple repairs can do to save your electronics. A brief look at their forums shows that have helped thousands of fixed appliances not repair their technology instead of throwing them away. What is the problem?
@ Envigopcrepairs The aim is to prevent people who just throw it away and not even consider going to a repair technician and at that moment, we are told it costs more to repair it instead. And the fact is that if this video helps reduce or stop, even those in Africa landfill (for waste reduction in general), it is worth the effort “to promote your business.”
This video is fake. . Use of Africans suffering from promoting their own business, I want you to pay all the money they spend in your store. As a technology service warranty i first DIY repair (depending on the repair) in some way defective, every repair done nothing to be ashamed technology. Then, when you give a professional to complete the repair, you may be able to because it has been altered or modified altready lot. . . Conclusion of electronic waste. .
and probably someone had mentioned the idea, but I feel the need to repeat. I think a round [modular] desktop can be designed and [updated by subscription]. Everything about the system are interchangeable / upgradeable: an annual fee pays for modular pieces that slide into a modular unit, with a minimum of effort can be upgraded to change ram, cpu, case, portable screen. . . Manufacturer (s) would be responsible for the recycling of modular
Good work – I see the world like you. I’m not a genius, but with the help manuals will be two screens laptop machines that still provide the valeur.Un Wikipedia FIXIT combined with recycling is the responsible way to address the third world to save landfill.
@ AGeekForeverJ’avais agree that the visible screws things very easy. Why there are no screws visible on the Mac Mini? The Apple TV? The MacBook Air? Or the iPhone / iPod / IPAD? Gently discourage people from opening their machines reduces the number of newbs get in over their heads, and reduces the cost of care to the client for mass market devices. Have a sense of perspective from Apple. But those of us who want to tweak * * Within these devices should look elsewhere for guidance.
@ Moquiti was really difficult to repair the security breach.
@ SFRWood really disagree with that. In addition to the Mac Mini, all other products are instructions on how to open it, and it is REALLY easy. In the iMac to remove the 4 screws on the bottom and take back. . .
@ AGeekForever: This is not the point. The point is access – the repair process is presented clearly by the manufacturer, or hidden by the tongue as “the determination of the simple things violates the guarantee and elegant design with concealed fixings.
Here are two: Powerbook G4, MacBook Pro PBG4 aluminiumJ’ai opened both the chassis, and Apple was no help in the process. Without iFIX, it was a doorstop. It is always bien.Je thanks, Kyle!
@ 68 AGeekForeverPage MDD manual “How to open the computer.” These instructions are included in the manual of the Mini, or “official site”. The fact is that the techniques are not obvious. No ‘s Other ways to hide the access, such as recessed screws and then cover them with stickers or rubber feet. None of them are particularly difficult once you know which in turn is used, but are not obvious to débutant.Apple consumers do not want to tinker.
@ SFRWood Yes, you must have a credit card to slide by the edges. Gosh, where they hope to come with these tools?
Great Idea. I hope that you will earn enough money to pay the bandwidth without increasing the price of parts.
Why not leave while improving the technology we are here? Maybe if they stopped making new and better video cards, processors, cell phones, MP3 players and computers every two months or years. I would not buy a new one.
@ AGeekForeverMacs were almost as difficult to open, most similar products, some screws and it opened. computer tower was even easier: G4 tower can be opened with a simple latch exemple.Mais consumer products for Apple are specifically designed to make an opening statement at least obvious – even difficult. The Mac mini is not that hard once you know the trick and have the proper tools, but it is far from clear * *. But the latest iPods and IPAD? Certainly “difficult to open.
Excellent! I will give you complete disassembly and repair instructions for many different cameras. Most electronic devices sold today are of the highest quality and are still out because most people do not know how easy it is to repair or modify travailler.Beaucoup best of these devices can be repaired or amended so that they can lead productive lives and hold.
@ Bodypainter99 rofl! Apple has instructions on how to open computer repair and tons of good things, not mentioned in the manual his official website. The name of an Apple product that is difficult to open.
