based on labor cost for repairing cylinder head defect, may it be a cracked head or gasket replacement, versus the price of heal-a-seal repair kit, i find myself interested in buying the kit and fixing the car myself. if there is a better brand for the job, pls advise me. your inputs will be greatly appreciated. thanks

I advise you as with your last question to get a used head and have it rebuilt. I dont advise helicoil’s in any head, go read your question last time, they dont work.
Hey! I have a 1986 reliant (aka a “K” car). 2 years ago I had a leaking head gasket and used BAR`S LEAKS HEAD GASKET REPAIR in the silver bottle $10 at NAPA.
I only needed a half bottle of it and I am fine to this day!
Follow the instructions carefully and I highly recommend that you bypass the heater core when installing this stuff. I didnt and almost plugged my heater core!
Fix it right and you will have no problems. “Mechanic in a bottle” products have been around as long as cars. None have ever been reliable. Pull the head, find the problem, fix it. That’s the only thing that will give you peace of mind that it’s done right.
I only recommend using one block seal. K & W Block Seal. It works wonders. But if you don’t follow the directions EXACTLY – it just won’t work. If you do follow the instructions, it will work
I HAVE A 1972 BACKHOE AND WHEN I BOUGHT IT FOR 300 DOLLARS, IT HAD A CRACKED BLOCK AND LEAKED OUT SIDE IF THE BLOCK BUT NOT IN THE OIL SIDE SO I ADDED A LARGE THING OF BARS LEAK AND IT LEAKED FOR WEEKS AS IT WAS CRACKED BAD BUT IT WORKED AFTER DRAINING EVERY NIGHT AND RE ADDED WITH A NEW CAN.
I STILL RUN IT AND IT IS NOT LEAKING NOW AND I DUG A POND LAST WEEK END.
I have never use a head sealing kit, I was never happy with the radiator sealing kits as a kid. I would not want to lose a engine, because for a head leak. As a pasts mechanic, I would not use a repair kit, because then I would be stuck, for the come back. I would advise for a new head, not as much for the labor cost that I would make, as that I do not want my work coming back and costing more money. Not knowing what you are driving, and how much you know about cars. It is not that hard to replace a head, but you do need to know a little and having tools. Maybe it is just not hard for me, after all the years. I just had to change inside ball joints, on a 1903 AeroStar and was worry about it,because I have never done it before, and after getting the boots for of the tie rods, and seeing how it was put together, no sweet, it took about 45 minutes for doing both of them.
Am considering using one of these products simply because replacing the head gasket on my 96 Cadillac STS is around $4500 which is over three times the trade in value of the car (if it were running). If I can drive it for a few months, it would be worth it.
