I’m planing on buying new E-coupe,but I have a question about PRE-SAFE Brake. I read that PRE-SAFE Brake will warn you if you are too close to the vehicle ahead, and will slow you down, but will not stop the vehicle. But then I found online owner’s manual of the car,I read about the PRE-SAFE Brake, and what I understood from it is that it can stop the vehicle completely if you don’t react. Below I post what the manual says about PRE-SAFE Brake, please read it,and tell me if it will stop the vehicle or not.
“At speeds above approximately 20 mph (30 km/h) it will issue a warning when your vehicle is approaching the preceding vehicle very quickly.”
“When the driver and front passenger have fastened their seat belts, the PRE-SAFE Brake can also: brake the vehicle within a speed range of up to 124 mph (200 km/h) automatically.”
“If you approach a vehicle and the PRE-SAFE Brake has established that the distance to the vehicle ahead at your current speed is so close that the Brake will not be capable of slowing the vehicle sufficiently, the system will initially warm you visually and acoustically. If you do not apply the brakes yourself or manoeuvre around a sensed obstacle, the vehicle will brake lightly automatically. When the danger of a collision still persists and you do not brake or accelerate significantly, the PRE-SAFE Brake may initiate full application of the brakes automatically.”

Take it for a test drive. I did not like. I had followed the vehicle before too closely, and even if you can stop at very short distances, the driver behind you is probably not, and I was very worried that I would be back ended. Another problem is that the system can not detect motorcycles, and is unable to realize that if a car suddenly enters your lane to an adjacent track that almost stopped. I have not driven the new Ford Taurus yet, but is available with a similar system, and I am interested to know how it compares.
I’m not sure either. I read the same thing you do, and this is the first Mercedes put into it. You can try before you buy the Mercedes unit. Request a test drive before making your decision. After buying a Mercedes, they also have a program where they teach you presafe in various Mercedes models. Segui was very good because the course is designed to test the car to react (and activate all systems presafe), so you know what your car is capable of reacting and is in various circumstances, such as a previous accident. In one test, led me through a very slippery surface (put into a kind of frost on the road) the car spun a bit before I can make it stop. Then the motor stops by itself, preventing air conditioning, roll the spool and tighten their belts. This is preparation for the accident. The trainer said the next step is for the car airbags.Un time off after a course, I went to my car on a normal road, a taxi cut in front of me. I brake on the wheel at about 100 km. , The car felt good. I felt good because I know what the car would do. However, I have avoided the drop and the engine starts, the design of CV, and close all windows after about 10 seconds.
