I had a small car accident today, involving me and some lady who backed up on the left rear side of my car. I was just dropping of my mom to Spa Lady then this lady, was backing up from a parking stall then hit me while i was stopped. I got a dent on my car. I know it wasn’t my fault or anything. We got her name and phone number and the license plate. Anyways me and my dad went to the police to do a collision report. The policeman told me that they gonna call the lady then tell her to come in to fill up some info like insurance and license info. He also told us that we dont have to call her or do anything else which got me all confused.
My question is how does this work? Do I call up the lady? What info should I get? Do I go and get damage estimates right away then tell the lady to pay me? Sorry Im new to this stuff, first time being in a collision.

If you have collision insurance on the car (and if the damages exceed the amount of your deductible) must file a claim with your own business. This is the best way to handle the situation. Your insurance company will pay for the damage minus the deductible and recover the cost of the other party. Then they return to their right to vote for you. If you want to give the lady a chance to use his own company, very well. If you start to give you no pain, then it is time to let your insurer on the sleeve.
