To me the point of view that both videos provided seemed to be vastly different. They seem to tell completely different stories. I decided to whip up a quick side-by-side comparison video of the two. I tried my best to synch up the exact moment of collision in both videos.

If you see the start of the vid, the whaler is facing AWAY from the AG. They hit full power and a HARD turn to aim at the AG, as you can tell by how they crest the swells and how they’re rolling to port during their turn.
It was deliberate, no question. And NO, kotsubu2, the AG had right of passage as their vessel was to starbord. The whaler’s captain should stand for charges, lose his papers, and go to prison. That’s nothing less than attempted murder by running over the smaller vessel.

Some people dont seem to know. This is a yearly event. Every year SS ramms the whaling vessel.
It is not in the SM’s interests to express any opinion. It is by their actions that they will be judged but it is also the Ady Gil’s crews actions that will be judged. The anti whaling cause is propagated by the transmission of their points of view widely and constantly on as many media as is possible. The more sensational their story and pictures, the more coverage they hope to get. By fabricating a collision story, it seems that they can open the hearts (and purse strings) of the uninformed.
Absolutely sure? No, and that`s my bad feeling about this collision. Media is accessible to all, but the deafening silence of the SM`s representatives seems to speak for itself.
Just because all vessels must assist in a Mayday situation does not mean that all vessels should converge on the collision datum to render assistance. In an unco-ordinated rescue during an adverserial situation, it would be better for one vessel to conduct the immediate rescue. Are we absolutely sure that the SM No 2 did not stand away and keep a close eye on all those overboard? Maybe a check of the engineering log will show what the engine and rudder commands were at the time of collision.
