Three people died recently in a collision with a driver in the wrong direction. What really an injury, and what makes them so deadly?

Head on collisions are more dangerous that side impact or rear impact collisions because of Newton’s First Law of Motion (“an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by another force”).
In the case of a head on collision, both objects are moving forward with a certain force and are “acted upon” by the other vehicle. This abrubt halt causes more trauma to the vehicles occupants than if they are hit from behind (which propels them forward with a different amount of force) or from the side (which changes their direction of travel).
The injuries usually sustained in such accidents are blunt trauma to the head (i.e. head injury from contact with the steering wheel, dashboard, other seats in the car) or spinal cord injuries from the abrupt change in momentum.
These injuries are always much worse and much more likely to be fatal without seatbelts and airbags.
probably brain damage, or spinal cord/neck injuries
Compacting of the vehicle upon Impact can crush somebody
The G forces If your car is traveling at 27.78 m/s (100 kph) and comes to rest in say 0.2 seconds, your deceleration is 27.78/0.2 = 138.9 m/s². This is 138.9/9.8 = 14.2 g.
This can distort internal Organs and cause internal bleeding.
Or even the breaking or shattering of bones.
The Skull and Spine can crack, crush or smash.
On some cars ***** on the dash can Impale somebody
When the Airbag deploys the Heat created when the chemicals react can cause 2nd degree burns.
The seatbealts can cause bruises, Broken collar bones, and cracked or broken ribs. Dislocated shoulders and ripped tendends or muscles.
Pretty much anything that could happen to a person Could happen in a Car Crash.
