  1. I would guess toyota, not only are they reliable cars but the parts are cheap. American cars, however, have changed over the past decade and are becoming more efficient. My personal belief is that foreign cars, such as Toyota and Honda, will always be two steps ahead of the American car industry.

  2. anywhere between a 1955 to 1962 fords. simple to work on.

  3. Well older model toyotas or Honda’s or foreign cars are reliable and newer american vehicles are getting just as reliable. Although as far as maintenance….the more electronics you get in a vehicle, the more expensive and complicated it gets. Sensors, electric Windows n locks. Remote starts. Air bags. Etc = $

  4. To save money, choose a car that’s both domestic & common. That means no special edition/ foreign engined cars. For a truck, go with an older Chevy V8 truck (After the switch to the 4L60E trans). 3.1L Chevy engines have been around a while too, so a good running engine with under 50K mi can be bought for under $500. I don’t like Chevy, but they’re easier to work on & cheap for me.

My friend finds his VW turbo-diesel easy to maintain, however it has been through 2 engines and 3 turbos in 310k mi.

Also, look for a manual transmission. Putting the clutch packs in transmissions can be a bear.

  5. 94-98 honda civic and 92- 98 ford escort
